5 chistjoseph.org /// CHI ST. JOSEPH HEALTH to treat each patient who walks through our doors as eciently and eectively as possible." WHEN EXPRESS CARE MAY BE ENOUGH Illnesses and injuries that are not life threatening may sometimes be better treated by healthcare professionals at express care centers, such as the CHI St. Joseph Health Express Cares. Board-certied physicians at these facilities diagnose and treat common medical conditions, such as colds, u, strep throat, and minor sprains, strains or cuts. They may also administer vaccinations and refer patients to specialists within CHI St. Joseph Health, if necessary. For more information about CHI St. Joseph Health emergency and express care facilities, visit chistjoseph.org. To provide our community with the fastest and most comfortable emergency services available, we have opened our new Emergency and Trauma Center (ETC) at our Regional Hospital. The 24,500-square-foot, 33-bed facility was designed based on an open concept to make receiving and treating patients as fluid and efficient as possible. "From the moment families and patients walk in the door, they will see the medical professionals who will be treating them," said Kristen Christian, B.S.N., R.N., director of emergency services at the CHI St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital. "The atmosphere is open and inviting but is also designed to offer the highest levels of privacy and efficiency." The space is also intended to be particularly nurturing to seniors, decorated in cool, cheerful colors and flooded with light to help enhance visibility and reduce falls. Large patient rooms feature new amenities, such as televisions and cozy seating for loved ones to make the stay in the facility as comfortable as possible. Additionally, new technologies in the expanded rooms help keep patients in the loop about critical tests they are waiting to receive. For example, an electronic communication board can display the results from a CT scan or images from a recent X-ray. "Lots of people will go to the ETC and wait for hours to hear news," said Brandon Lewis, D.O., M.B.A., F.A.C.O.E.P., medical director of the CHI St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital emergency department. "Our goal is to keep families informed about what is happening during their entire course of care." The larger trauma rooms are outfitted with equipment to treat severely injured patients, who may have been transferred from another facility or from the helipad on top of the ETC. The trauma program at CHI St. Joseph Health is a verified Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons, and a designated Level II Trauma Center by the Texas Department of State Health Services. This verification and designation makes CHI St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital the highest level trauma center in the region. "We are equipped to handle every emergency that arises," Dr. Lewis said. "Almost every specialty is available, from neurosurgery to cardiology to oral-maxillofacial surgery. Even though we've already developed the only Level II Trauma Program in the region, we've invested in a new Emergency and Trauma Center that will provide residents of the Brazos Valley with even better access to advanced emergency care services." Strategically placed at the intersection of Highway 6 and William D. Fitch in College Station, our standalone emergency facility was built to serve the growing community of residents and businesspeople in and around South College Station. "The College Station emergency department offers the same services that are available at our main campus in Bryan," said Kristen Christian, B.S.N., R.N. "We have the same nurses and physicians making rounds in a smaller environment, where patients can count on shorter wait times and personalized attention in an aesthetically pleasing environment. It's new, it's quick and it's convenient." New Emergency and Trauma Center is Now Open Convenient Care in College Station
