He was best known for his own- ership in Shades of Gold, an opti- cal fashion store in the Northland Shopping Center in Southfield. Mr. Ekelman is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lois Ekelman; sons and daughter-in-law, David and Lori Ekelman of Rochester. and Ronnie Ekelman of Farmington Hills; daugh- ter and son-in-law, Linda and Andy Adelson of West Bloomfield; grand- children, Justin Beckwith, Jason Beckwith and Amanda Adelson; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Arthur Koenig Jr., and Robert and May Koenig.
