South of Boston 05-816 PUBLISHER from the Michael Jones PU BLISHER South of Boston M J O N E S @ M D N E W S . C O M 508-888-1502 @MDNewsBoston greaterboston.mdnews.com In the 15 years that I've been publishing MD News in the Boston area, both the healthcare and the media industries have changed almost beyond recognition. MD News has also gone through it's share of changes in that time, starting life as a South of Boston magazine, expanding over time into Boston, North of Boston and West of Boston, and then merging all four publications together into a single Greater Boston edition. This issue marks a return to our roots as, by popular demand, we relaunch MD News South of Boston. It's a decision I've made after many conversations with clients, advertisers and readers, who found the magazine to be more beneficial when it was more local in its focus. More to the point, it's a decision that I have made myself, as True North Custom, the company that has owned the magazine since 2009, recently o˜ered a handful of its veteran publishers the opportunity to purchase the rights to the MD News brand in each of their respective markets. I took them up on that o˜er, which means that I'm now in charge of the Boston editions. My very first executive decision has been to revert to the localized editions. This will also be an opportunity for me to make some long-overdue changes and move the magazine beyond mere ink on paper into areas that I've long felt would be more in line with my clients' content marketing needs — digital publishing, video, social media and beyond. And while there will most likely always be a print component to what we do, I'll be able to redefine the circulation footprints based more closely on my clients' and readers' needs. In short, this is the start of an exciting new era for MD News. Rather than just an ink-on-paper magazine, we aim to become a full-service content marketing platform for hospitals and healthcare providers throughout the region. I'm excited. The people I've had the opportunity to share my vision with seem to be excited. And I hope you'll be excited, too, as we roll out new ways to tell the many stories of the Boston area's world-class healthcare system. As always, I'd like to thank the people who have made the stories of this edition pos- sible. If you have any questions or comments, or a story of your own you would like us to tell, please feel free to call me at 508-888-1502, or email me at mjones@mdnews.com. Michael Jones
