Celebrating Independence Willie Stein, 95, found it difficult to live alone in his second-story condominium in Manalapan after sharing it with his wife of 69 years, Betty, until her death in 2007. He moved to Monmouth Crossing in December 2011. “It was hard walking up and down the stairs, and I wasn’t cooking or eating properly,” Willie says. “When I was admitted to CentraState Medical Center because my potassium was dangerously high, my children thought it would be best for me to move into assisted living. We checked out a few places, but Monmouth Crossing has been the best for me.” Feels Like Home Born on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Willie had a dry-cleaning business and was a dispatcher for police, fire, and rescue before retiring in 1989. He and Betty had two daughters, one who lives in California and another who lives in Manalapan and helped him find Monmouth Crossing. “Everyone who works here is very friendly and makes you feel at home,” Willie says. “Now I enjoy three wonderful meals a day prepared by a chef who does very good work. There are four of us gentlemen who eat together, and we all get along fine.” House Calls After his stay at CentraState, Willie spent time at The Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center, which is accredited by The Joint Commission. He received physical therapy for mobility, performing exercises for his hands and feet. “Although there are half a dozen physicians I see, my primary care physician [Howard Schoenfeld, DO] comes here once a month—more if needed,” Willie says. “I am in good physical shape. I don’t use a walker and just gave up my cane. I read mostly, but as time goes on I will engage in more activities. Monmouth Crossing is a wonderful place to live.” For more information about assisted living at Monmouth Crossing or to schedule a visit, call (732) 303-8600. Peace of Mind Residents can pursue their favorite hobbies at Monmouth Crossing with medical care and assistance with activities of daily living provided when needed. Monmouth Crossing is located just across the street from CentraState Medical Center and has certified nurses aides on site 24 hours a day as well as on-site visits by physicians. “While we provide careful monitoring of medical conditions, we focus on residents’ strengths,” says Heleyne Gladstein, administrator, Monmouth Crossing. “Residents are free to enjoy life without the worries of maintaining a home or completing chores on their own. There is always something to do with a full activities calendar, monthly birthday parties, outside trips, and special events, to name a few. Monmouth Crossing is not just an assisted living community; it’s more like a family.”
