BUILDER: E.W. Tarca Construction "Architect Karen Brown, from Karen Brown Design, worked with E.W. Tarca Construction on a large remodel/upgrade in Sherborn, MA," Ed says. "The new owners were referred to me by the previous owners for whom they had done a remodel in Falmouth, MA. The house was a barn in the 1950s and converted into a single family home in the 1960s, but it retained many of its original characteristics. Karen's challenge was to make it more contemporary and functional, which she did by designing a round room off the kitchen to serve as a family room/breakfast area. The rest of the house was remodeled by adding contemporary features agreed upon by the homeowner and the designer." "The job was a complete gut and rebuild, which revolved largely around our being able to take a stark contemporary look and add paneling and moldings for a more comfortable and traditional feel." PHOTOGRAPHER: ED TARCA "An existing A-frame project in Okemo Mountain Resort, in Ludlow, VT, that required serious updating was gutted and rebuilt to include a new heating system, new radiant flooring, new millwork and cabinetry, copper hoods and countertops that were fabricated in our own shop," Ed says. "A handmade twig handrail system ran throughout the property, which I think of as more of an art than construction, but we loved working on it. The project moved quickly, being designed in the spring and summer and complete for ski season of that same year."
