PO Box 447 1373 East State Road 62 Madison, Indiana 47250-0447 This publication in no way seeks to serve as a substitute for professional medical care. Consult your physician before undertaking any form of medical treatment or adopting any exercise program or dietary guidelines. Committed to CARE King's Daughters' Health is excited to welcome board-certified general surgeon Russell Gornichec, MD, FACS, to the team. DR. GORNICHEC'S INTEREST in helping people began long before he ever donned a surgeon's mask. "I was originally trained as a firefighter and paramedic in Dallas," he says. "Through those jobs, I had the opportunity to work with and get to know some surgeons at a local hospital. They convinced me to apply to medical school – they really helped mentor me." While earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and finishing an internship and residency at Baylor University Medical Center, Dr. Gornichec served in the United States Air Force Medical Corps. He left the service in 2003 with an honorable discharge. "Every Day Is Different" Dr. Gornichec comes to KDH most recently from private practice in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where he moved after working as an instructor at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. His specialties include minimally invasive and advanced laparoscopic surgeries, including laparoscopic hernia repair. One of his favorite things about being a surgeon is the continual evolution of the discipline. "Every day is different," he says. "General surgery is an ever- changing field. You're always being introduced to different techniques and learning something new." Outside of his busy medical practice, Dr. Gornichec enjoys motorcycling, boating, playing golf and spending time with his wife. When he's not in the operating room or seeing patients, you can find him at the lake or checking out local restaurants. ■ Have a problem that may benefit from a surgical solution? Schedule a consultation with Dr. Gornichec by calling (812) 801-0840. Russell Gornichec, MD
