KENTUCKIANS ACROSS THE COMMONWEALTHNOW HAVE
ACCESS TO EARLY DETECTION SCREENINGS.
NO ONE WANTS to fi nd out they might have cancer. However,
knowing your risk factors and screening for cancer early, even if
you have no symptoms, increases the chances of fi nding cancer
at an early stage — when it's most treatable. At the James
Graham Brown Cancer Center, part of KentuckyOne Health, we
know the importance of screening and early detection.
"Thanks in part to Jane Beshear, former fi rst lady of Kentucky,
we now have a mobile screening van," said Connie Sorrell,
director of the Kentucky Cancer Program. "The idea is to travel the
state to provide education and early detection for cervical, colon,
lung, breast, prostate, skin, and head and neck cancers."
If a screening conducted in the van shows you may need follow-
up — either monitoring by a primary care physician or an imaging
test — you will be connected to a KentuckyOne Health physician.
"We're doing everything we can to remove barriers to
care," said Mark Milburn, vice president of oncology
services at KentuckyOne Health. "Right now, most
Kentuckians with breast cancer are diagnosed at stages
3 and 4, which is unacceptable. Let us help you fi nd
cancer early."
The Cancer Screening Van was made possible by generous
donors and by Jane Beshear and Horses & Hope, and the Jewish
Hospital and St. Mary's Foundation.
