Walking through the bustling halls of SAMMC is a firsthand reminder of how many soldiers and their families require medical care in San Antonio. Many in our city are aware of the economic impact the growth of Fort Sam Houston has had on our community, but not all are aware of the impact on our health care community. Dr. Goff explains how pain management within the Army is undergoing a significant overhaul through the creation of "interdisci- plinary pain management centers" and how military physicians rely on their civilian counterparts to continue the expert level of care needed to treat military patients.
