On Oct. 30, a new electronic medical records (EMR) system will make it easier for patients and their doctors to access healthcare information using a secure, systemwide program. Dear Friends, As one of the fastest-growing communities in Colorado, Longmont is changing rapidly. While our community grows in numbers, one element that our area continues to value is our local roots. The needs of Longmont continue to grow and change, and Longmont United Hospital continues to adapt and grow to meet the needs of the people weserve. During this burgeoning time, access to high-quality healthcare continues to be an ever-present need. LUH continues to nd and implement new ways to provide high-quality care and value to our patients. The opening of our Emergency & Urgent Care Center in Frederick has improved access to urgent and emergent care to help our patients get the appropriate care they need, when they need it. Additionally, we have opened a new primary care practice in Firestoneand look forward to opening another in southwest Longmontthis October. In the coming months, LUH will welcome new providers from a variety of specialty areas to our team. Our focus areas for recruitment include cardiology, family practice, obstetrics and gynecology, and endocrinology. Growing our network of world-class providers and expanding our specialties and services will help us meet the shifting needs of our community and keep care local. In addition to our exciting hospital-based changes, LUH has launched a campaign to celebrate and highlight the local roots of this community. The campaign has been branded "Longmont Loves Local" and will showcase and partner with local businesses while inviting others to do so as well. Longmont is rich with history, and our campaign encourages residents and businesses to tell their stories. By telling the stories of our local community, we hope to strengthen the foundation and unity ofLongmont. Though our methods evolve to continually improve quality and value of the care we provide our patients, LUH remains dedicated to our mission of nurturing the health of families just like yours. LUH has had the privilege to serve our community and care for patients since 1959. We are committed to continuing our legacy of providing high-quality patient care for you and your entire family. Sincerely, Mitchell C. Carson President & CEO Longmont United Hospital THE EPIC EMR program will replace the existing EMR systems at Longmont United Hospital, uniting patient records in a single, seamless program. "Epic puts patients' charts at clinicians' fingertips," says Melissa Young, RN, BSN, RN-BC, Clinical Informatics Manager at LUH. "With real-time documentation, all clinicians involved in patient care have the most up-to-date information at all times. Doctors can pull up patients' records and results to review with them right in patient rooms or access them from community-based clinics with the Care Everywhere program." The information in the patient portal is accessible to patients after they leave the hospital. Epic's web-based patient portal puts patients in the driver's seat, allowing them to easily and securely access discharge instructions, follow-up appointment information and test results. Patients can sign up for portal accounts when they are discharged. In many cases, nurses can sign patients up right from their hospital rooms with bedside mobile devices, allowing patients to access the portal as soon as they arrive home. Convenient access to basic medical information will save patients and their caretakers time and stress. That's Epic. › For more information about accessing patient records, visit luhcares.org and select "Patients & Visitors."
