JEFFERY WALKED INTO Branch Manager Roz's office at the Hartford Healthcare
Federal Credit Union's (HHFCU) Hartford Hospital branch and sank into a chair.
He was clearly exhausted, with sweat running down his face. He looked at Roz
and told her he was so behind on his bills, he was going to lose his car and his
family would find out he had no money for groceries. Roz sprang into action—
she knew exactly what she had to do.
Roz and the HHFCU staff had recently completed the Credit Union
National Association's Certified Credit Union Financial
Counselor program—a year's worth of training to help
people like Jeffery look at all aspects of their money
issues. Roz showed Jeffery how to examine not only
at the spending side of his finances, but the savings
side too. With some counseling and a small loan to
consolidate debt, Jeffery came back to Roz within
two weeks with a huge smile on his face. Not
only was he able to keep his car, have money to
feed his family and catch up his bills, he had a
plan to continue doing so every week, and he
had money in his savings account too.
Teaching Jeffery how to take charge of his
finances helped him and his family—it's just
one way HHFCU's proactive training of our
staff helps save the world, one person at
a time.
