CELEBRATING SUCCESS TIME AND EXPERT TRAUMA CARE SAVED THE LIFE OF YOUNG TAYLOR SANDERS—HIS FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT. In September 2014, Taylor was 5 years old. When a deer blocked the road in front of his family's vehicle, his father swerved to miss it, and Taylor suered life-threatening injuries from the ensuing accident. TOTAL TRAUMA TREATMENT Taylor was taken to a nearby hospital in Albany, but the severity of Taylor's injuries required expert trauma care. Taylor was life-ighted to Children's Hospital, Navicent Health, a Level I Trauma Center, where trauma surgeon Eric Long, MD, and his team examined Taylor and found multiple critical internal injuries, including a torn diaphragm and damage to the majority of his tiny organs. "I couldn't believe he survived," Dr. Long says. "His injuries were very severe. Most people—even full-grown adults— probably would have died at the scene." Despite having gone into cardiopulmonary arrest during his rst surgery, having to be put on life support and having received extreme care typically provided to those with little chance of survival, Taylor held onto his life, and his parents continued to pray each day their rstborn would make it through the night and the next one aer that. Taylor received round-the-clock care—including blood transfusions, multiple surgeries and continuous renal replacement therapy, which is not typically administered to pediatric patients—for more than three months at CHNH before recovering enough to go home. In December 2014, on the evening of his departure from the hospital following three months of care, Taylor received a special gi: He was designated as the Georgia State Representative for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. MIRACLE IN MACON ough Taylor was cleared to go home, he still required treatment and additional surgeries from CHNH to repair his body. Aer nearly two years, Taylor recently underwent his last surgery, and with expert care, has fully recovered. "I thank God every day for watching over our son and for the exceptional trauma team at CHNH and the excellent care they gave my son," says Wendy Sanders, Taylor's mother. "His living through the accident and making a full recovery is nothing short of a miracle." Donations to Navicent Health Foundation help make miracles like Taylor's a reality.
