Securing Our Future A Journey to Israel Inspires Kari and Nick Coburn to Support Our Community's Future The Centennial Fund is the central campaign for ensuring the long-term security of Jewish Detroit. Over the past several years, the Fund has become a vehicle for over a hundred families to support our community's future welfare. "As parents, we strive to make the importance of charity and giving a thematic part of our kids' upbringing," the Coburns note, "and we hope that this gift inspires them, and others in our community, to continue to support our Jewish heritage through generous giving. We also look forward to taking our children to Israel this year to show them the incredible impact that generous Detroiters have made there, and we hope that this gift inspires others to do the same. We are blessed to be able to make this gift and are grateful to the Jewish Federation for all it does." IN 2014, Nick Coburn joined a Federation Solidarity Mission to Israel following the recent conflict in Gaza. This was his first trip to Israel and the experience had a profound impact on him. "Like so many others, I came away with an overwhelming sense of connection to a place I really didn't understand before," he says. "It's impossible to even begin to appreciate the determination and spirit of the country and its people, or the importance of its role in an unstable world without seeing it in person." The experience led him and his wife Kari to consider how they might make a difference in the Jewish world. As a result, they decided to make a commitment to Federation's Centennial Campaign. "Generous and philanthropic Detroiters have an incredible history of continuous support for our local and global Jewish community," Nick says, "and we decided to make this gift to be a small part of that great tradition."
