HealthAlliance Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), has been accepted into the American College of Nurse-Midwives' (ACNM's) Reducing Primar y Cesareans Project to improve the health of mothers and babies by reduc - ing the incidence of first C-sections in low-risk women who've never given bir th. The project is par t of ACNM's Healthy Bir th Initiative, a long- term effor t with leading maternity-care organizations. The initiative promotes evidence-based practices that suppor t healthy bir ths based on a pregnant woman's own physiology. Encouraging a consistent approach to bir th practices, it also focuses on reduc - ing practices that are not evidence-based. Under the Reducing Primar y Cesareans Project, funded by the Transforming Bir th Fund, maternity health professionals and health systems agree to take action steps called "bundles." Each bundle brings about a change aimed at reducing the number of primar y, or first, C-sections. HealthAlliance will implement at least one of three bundles, based on a data-driven analysis of the major reason low-risk women at the hospital have first C-sections.
