14 CHI St. Luke's Health | V1N1 | Community Neighbors Our Latest DAISY Award Winner for Extraordinary Nurses Founded in 1999, The DAISY Award is designed to recognize and thank nurses for the incredible service they provide to their patients and communities. The DAISY Award is given in memory of Patrick Barnes, a young man who developed an autoimmune condition known as Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura and received hospital-based nursing care throughout the last eight weeks of his life. CHI St. Luke's Health–The Woodlands Hospital is one of more than 2,000 healthcare facilities throughout the nation that partners with The DAISY Foundation to honor nurses with The DAISY Award. Every six weeks, we recognize a nurse who has been nominated for demonstrating our core values of reverence, integrity, compassion, and excellence. Some of the attributes that dene our DAISY Award recipients include moral wholeness, trustworthiness, and truthfulness; a profound respect for and awe of life; and the ability to be a role model for others and to deliver compassionate care that is rooted in safety and clinical expertise. Taylor Ruthstrom, a nurse on third shift, was nominated for her unparalleled compassion. To nominate a nurse at The Woodlands for a DAISY Award, visit CHIStLukesHealth.org/daisy.
