from the Publisher Richard Keene PUBLISHER Central New York RKEENE@MDNEWS.COM 315.446.8331 T HANK YOU VERY much for reading the July/August issue of MD News. Once again, we examine the world-class health care available right here in Central New York. Our cover story features Crouse Radiology Associates and its expansion into a new facility at 5000 Brittonfield Parkway in East Syracuse. The new facility will bring cutting-edge technology to bear in a patient-friendly environment. Boasting a pyramidal atrium for patient comfort, as well as a pager system, the new building will allow patients more freedom than a conventional waiting room can afford. The new site is a joint venture between Crouse Radiology Associates and Crouse Hospital and will feature easy access from Interstate routes 81, 690, 90 and 481, as well as free parking in a suburban setting. Crouse Radiology Associates continues to provide world-class imaging and superior patient service. Our interior feature focuses on the Division of Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University. The division has opened the doors to a new clinic at Upstate's Community General campus. The clinic offers a full range of services for treatment of respiratory conditions, such as chronic and obstructive lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary hypertension and other vascular disease, sleep disorders, asthma, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, pulmonary infections, lung cancer and masses, pleural effusions, asbestosis, occupational diseases and others. The new office provides patients with personalized care delivered by a staff well versed in pulmonary treatment and care. Also in this issue, Jerry Hoffman, Executive Vice President of the Onondaga County Medical Society, looks at the contributions, past and present, our area has made to expanding the role of women in medicine. As Jerry points out, women have practiced medicine since antiquity, but until the 19th century were generally denied the medical degree and other formal credentials of the profession. We should be very proud of the leadership Central New York has shown in the vanguard of progress in this area. Without the support and contributions of a number of influential female health care providers, this magazine would not be the success it is. Once again, I would like to thank all those who come together to create our magazine. Here at MD News, we are dedicated to delivering an engaging reader experience, one with real local relevance. In each issue, we highlight distinguished and accomplished physicians and practice groups. We also provide updates on the latest medical studies, pointers for managing your practice and a unique look at what is happening in the local medical community. We love to receive nominations for our cover stories, tips on current news within your organization and feedback on our articles. I would also like to suggest that you visit www.MDNews.com to discover a wonderful resource for health care marketing. We are here to serve the physician and health care community.
