THE 12TH ANNUAL HEARTS OF GOLD GALA ALLOWED US TO HONOR THE REMARKABLE CONTRIBUTIONS OF OUR VOLUNTEERS. The Hearts of Gold Gala honored 28 hospital volunteers on Nov. 19, 2016 at Vineland Station in Whiteville. More than 200 attendees, including community members, physicians, employees and staff, came together to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of our volunteers. At Columbus Regional Healthcare System, we know volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. "Our volunteers have contributed more than 100,000 hours since 1993," says Terrie Priest, vice president of Business Development and Community Relations. "They raise funds in our gift shops and hold fundraising events to give back to the hospital, helping us acquire cardiac rehabilitation equipment and a community education resource room in our cancer center." GIVING BACK Hosted by the CRHS Foundation, the Hearts of Gold Gala is also a major fundraising event for the hospital. The nearly $63,000 raised at the Gala will support programs through the Foundation, including: • The newly revived Pastoral Care program at CRHS • Local scholarships • The Healing Garden at CRHS • Cancer Center Fund for oncology patients • Transportation for recently discharged patients who need help getting home In addition to a cocktail dinner catered by Morrison's, guests at the Gala were treated to live music from The Embers, featuring Craig Woolard, that played beach music late into the night. There was also a silent auction, featuring generous gifts from our community, including a three-stone diamond ring from Collier's Jewelers, several pieces of art, catered meals and trips.
