COVER FEATURE A P I C T U RE OF T H E COMMUNITY'S HEALTH WHEN PRACTICES SET OUT TO PROVIDE ESSENTIAL HEALTH CARE SERVICES TO AN AREA'S RESIDENTS, MOST DEFINE THE PROCESS BY WHAT THEY CAN DO INDIVIDUALLY. MAGNETIC DIAGNOSTIC RESOURCES (MDR) HAS ALWAYS TAKEN A DIFFERENT APPROACH. SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE GROUP HAS LOOKED BEYOND THE LIMITS OF WHAT A SINGLE PRACTICE CAN DO AND FOUND STRENGTHENED POSSIBILITIES FOR PATIENT CARE IN COLLABORATION BETWEEN RADIOLOGISTS FROM MULTIPLE PRACTICES — ENABLING POSSIBILITIES THAT EVEN TODAY ARE PROVIDING ADVANCED MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING (MRI) SERVICES IN CENTRAL NEW YORK. F ORMED IN 1985, MDR com- prises 51 radiology partners from both Crouse Radiology Associates and St. Joseph's Imaging Associates. The practice offers convenient, on-site imaging at 11 loca- tions, three of which provide 24-hour availability, seven days a week. MDR provides access to an extensive range of diagnostic MRI exams, including body, neurological and orthopedic imaging and magnetic resonance enterography for assessing the level of a patient's inf lammatory bowel disease. The practice is particularly experienced in breast MRI services. In fact, in 1997 it became the first radiology group to introduce the technology to the region. "In this day and age, when cost containment and utilization of health Dr. Stephen Montgomery, Medical Director at Crouse Hospital Breast Health Center, MDR radiologist care resources are so important, it's clear that MDR was way ahead of its time," says Nicholas Trasolini, M.D., Chairman and Medical Director of the Medical Imaging Department at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center and radiologist with MDR. "Instead of duplicating services in every practice, we chose a different model. Now, our joint venture involves hospitals and PHOTOS COURTESY OF MDR
