++++++++++++++++++ + + ++++++++++++++++++ LOCAL NEWS +++ +++ CROUSE HOSPITAL TO SERVE AS NATIONAL ROBOTIC SURGERY TRAINING SITE Crouse Hospital has been designated a colorectal robotic Epicenter by Intuitive Surgical, maker of the da Vinci Surgical System. As an official Epicenter training site, colorectal surgeons from across the nation will visit Crouse Hospital monthly to observe and learn from colorectal surgeons John Nicholson, M.D., and David Nesbitt, M.D., who use the da Vinci technology for colon and rectal robotic surgery. Both are partners in Colon Rectal Associates of Central New York. Crouse Hospital performs the larg- est number of robotic procedures in Syracuse. The hospital's multispecialty robotics program includes colorec- tal, urological, GYN/oncological and general surgical procedures using the minimally invasive da Vinci technology. Crouse, which has two da Vinci Surgical Systems, is one of just a few colorectal Epicenters in the United States and the only designated center in New York State. "Intuitive is selective about choosing a robotic surgery program to serve as an Epicenter teaching site for colorec- tal surgery," says Ron Stahl, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for Crouse Hospital. "Crouse's program, and in particular our colorectal surgeons, are leaders in their field in terms of experience, overall volume and quality outcomes." The Epicenter observation experi- ence for surgeons wanting to learn ro- botic techniques lasts all day. Visiting surgeons will be in the operating room with Drs. Nicholson and Nesbitt and observe procedures from start to finish. ST. JOSEPH'S NAMES NEW CARDIOVASCULAR SERVICE ADMINISTRATOR St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center has ap- pointed John J. Cannizzaro to the position of cardiovascular service line administrator. In this role, he will provide administrative direc- tion and leadership in the planning, develop- ment, implementation and evaluation of the cardiac and vascular service lines. Cannizzaro has worked for St. Joseph's for more than 20 years in a variety of manage- ment roles, including director of primary care, director of dialysis services and ambula- tory care, executive director of St. Joseph's Health Alliance, executive director of the SyraHealth Alliance and, most recently, direc- tor of managed care. Previously, he worked as a financial analyst and associate at the Central New York Health Systems Agency, Inc., accountant for Konski Engineers, P.C.
