COVER FEATURE KEEPING UP WITH THE TECHNOLOGY WHEN MAGNETIC DIAGNOSTIC RESOURCES opened its first imaging location in 1985, few providers in the medical community could have predicted how important breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) would become to patient care. Just as MRI technology has evolved, so has the Central New York practice. Today, the practice has grown to include 11 sites, all accredited by the American College of Radiology, including locations at: + Brittonfield Office Park in East Syracuse + Community General Physicians Office Building in Syracuse + Crouse Hospital in Syracuse + Crouse Physicians Office Building in Syracuse + Diagnostic Imaging Center in Auburn + Medical Center West in Camillus + Northeast Medical Center in Fayetteville + North Medical Center in Liverpool + Radisson Health Center in Baldwinsville + South First Street in Fulton + St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse MDR techs use state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the highest quality in magnetic resonance imaging. used their collaborative relationships to enhance their individual expertise. In the early days, this developed into a tradition in which a radiologist from each partner group would meet at the first MDR office every evening and review each case to discuss the possible interpretations and appropriate treatment options. "I feel it is a tremendous advantage to the patients when you have people collaborating and sharing their expertise," says Michael Letizia Sr., CEO of MDR. "The patients are our focus, and we do everything we can to ease their anxiety." Today, the focus on patient safety 10 | Central New York MD NEWS ■ MDNEWS.COM and comfort is evident from the moment a patient is scheduled for his or her appointment. MDR's centralized scheduling system allows patients to be seen quickly and conveniently. Letizia notes that, in the event a referring physician requests that an exam be performed immediately, the practice can accommodate the urgent need. In addition, patients can access office paperwork on the practice's website and complete the appropriate forms before their appointments. Exams are performed by compassionate and knowledgeable technologists who are able to answer patients' questions and address any anxieties they may have regarding their procedures and results. Patients are given earplugs and, through the use of fiber optics, can listen to music during their exams. In addition, two of the MDR locations are equipped with MRI scanners that cater to claustrophobic patients, providing a more comfortable experi- ence for them.
