30 March 30 • 2017 jn T he wind may have knocked out power across Metro Detroit March 8, but that did not stop Hillel Day School support- ers from attending a Leadership Circle reception at the home of Nanci and David Farber, who, just in time for the event, person- ally removed a tree that had fallen across their driveway. Nearly 100 donors of $1,800 or more enjoyed a strolling dinner and live music from the Simone Vitale Band, as they celebrated the school, its upcoming 60th anniversary in the 2017-2018 school year and the honorees for the upcoming Annual Dream Maker Gala on June 4. This year, the school is celebrating parents Nadine and David Farbman, its youngest honorees in the history of the school, with the Dream Maker Award, and longtime parents and community supporters Janice and Steven Traison, with the Rabbi Jacob E. Segal Award. Recipients of the fourth annual Distinguished Alumni Awards will also be recognized at the gala. This year's recipients are Edward Alterman (class of 1986), Rabbi Jennifer Kaluzny (class of 1991) and Jonathan Ozeran (class of 1997). The annual gala is the culmination of the school's Annual Fund campaign, which enables Hillel to deliver upon its mission to provide a Jewish edu- cation to as many children as pos- sible in Metro Detroit. The community can celebrate the honorees in the Shulman Scholarship Journal.
