++++++++++++++++++++++++ + + ++++++++++++++++++++++++ HOSPITAL ROUNDS +++ +++ What's New at Area Hospitals Helen Hayes Hospital announces a new schedule for its spinal cord injury/amputee support group. The group will meet the third Wednesday of every month from 6 to 8 p.m. in the second-floor dining room at the reha- bilitation hospital in West Haverstraw. The schedule for the remainder of the year is: September 19, October 17, November 21 and a group holiday party December 19. The support group is open to individuals living with a spinal cord injury or amputa- tion, along with their families, friends and caregivers. Meetings often feature a guest speaker, and there is always an open, gener- al discussion followed by time for questions and answers. Individuals who cannot physically attend meetings may participate via webcast. Saint Francis Hospital was once again ranked first (of 155 hospitals) in New York state in meeting national standards for the care of patients with heart failure, pneumo- nia and heart attack, and certain aspects of surgical care. The information was contained in a re- port, which also found Saint Francis Hospital ranked 49th nationwide (of 3,061 hospitals), provided by the Healthcare Association of New York State based on data collected for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services between July 2010 and June 2011. The data was released in May 2012. "It is very affirming to once again be No. 1 in the state and in the top 2% in the nation for our care of patients in these catego- ries," says the hospital's director of patient safety and quality improvement.
