THINK On Friday, February 17, Columbus Regional Healthcare System gathered with community members for our Pink Party Breast Health Event, an afternoon of education and screenings designed to help women and men take charge of their breast health. During the three-hour festivities, 25 women and two men took part in a 10-minute educational presentation, a nurse practitioner performed free clinical breast exams, and participants had a chance to win a variety of door prizes. Eleven women also received mammograms, and four more made appointments to have the screening at a later date. "The Pink Party Breast Health Event educates people about their breast health," says Lisa Thomas, MSN, RN, OCN, director of the Donayre Cancer Care Center. "Attendees leave knowing what to look for and are empowered to see their physician if they find something abnormal." Pink! Pink! The Pink Party Breast Health Event is held quarterly. For information about future events, visit www.crhealthcare.org/events or call the Donayre Cancer Care Center at 910-641-8220. 3 CRHEALTHCARE.ORG More an a Hpital GET A LEG UP ON SPRING ALLERGIES Spring is here—flowers and trees are blooming, bees are buzzing and pollen and mold spores are afloat. Try these tips to avoid your airborne allergy triggers this year. • If possible, spend time outside on cloudy, rainy or windless days, when pollen counts are lower. • Keep home and car windows closed to prevent pollen from coming indoors. • Wear a pollen mask when doing yardwork, and when you get inside, take off your clothes and hop in the shower to wash pollen from your hair and skin. • Dry clothes indoors instead of outside, as pollen can cling to wet linens. • Regularly change your air filter and choose high- efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, which are best for clearing allergens. If you've tried these strategies and are still experiencing spring allergy difficulties, talk with your healthcare provider about over-the-counter or prescription allergy medications that may help ease symptoms.
