"At Faithbridge Church, there are three parish nurses, and we have the privilege of serving our church members in the areas of health education, community service, and visitation. We see our members as servants of God and believe we all need to keep our 'temples' as healthy as we can to serve God in our daily lives." —COLLEEN GARTNER, FAITHBRIDGE CHURCH PARISH NURSE "As a parish nurse, I have the ability to share my faith with those in the congregation and listen to them as they share their faith with me. I believe that healing is part science, part good care, and part faith." —NANCY SEABERG, HUBBARD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PARISH NURSE "My parish nurse ministry is always focused on supporting the vision of the pastor for our church. Ministering to people as three-part beings in body, soul, and spirit as Jesus did while He was on Earth makes my position rewarding, as well as effective." —DEACON ROSEMARY MILLS, FRONTLINE CHURCH PARISH NURSE "I have been a parish nurse since the 1990s. I have learned that the strength of youth is physical, while the strength of the aged is spiritual. Both strengths must be nourished throughout our lives." —JUDY DOYEL, RIVERSIDE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PARISH NURSE "In my work as a parish nurse, I encourage personal responsibility to reduce the incidence of chronic disease through prevention and self-care. When we take personal responsibility for our health, we experience better well-being and incur fewer health costs. We become healthier, happier individuals." —DIANE BROPHY, CHI ST. JOSEPH'S HEALTH PARISH NURSE COORDINATOR AND PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE One favorite aspect of being a faith community nurse is that our faith community lives in fellowship with one another. I'm privy to views on a person's health that a clinician would not have. I have the privilege to help congregants see the 'big picture' in their care, as well as offer advice as people may wrestle with where their faith has collided with a medical or health issue. —CYNTHIA DAINSBERG, CALVARY CHURCH FAITH COMMUNITY NURSE Parish nursing is a way of quietly providing physical, mental, and spiritual support to others by meeting people in their time of need and offering support as needed. As a member of the congregation, the parish nurse has an opportunity to observe and make connections with others in a way that is unique. What a wonderful way of serving God by serving others. —MARION HANSEN, SEBEKA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PARISH NURSE 4th Row (left to right): Glyndle Siebert, Joyce Ramsay, Jodi Walsh, Deacon Rosemary Mills; 3rd Row (left to right): Bernice Hinds, Jennifer Schauland, Helene Kahlstorf; 2nd Row (left to right): Judy Doyel, Tiffany Kimball; 1st Row: Diane Brophy www.CHISJH.org | CHI St. Joseph's Health 5
