Vasque is debuting the $129.99 Trailbender style for men and women, which pairs an impact-absorbing, foot-comforting Micro Plus Sole and durable injection moulded midsole with a wide toe box and the brand's AR-6 fit profile, designed for ambidextrous landings on rugged terrain. The $125 Women's One Trail from The North Face is designed as an all-rounder, working as well for scrambling up hillsides, running forest trails or long day hikes. It has a TecTuff toeguard and mudguard. Scarpa's new Hydrogen trail collection is what the brand defines as "a modern, nimble take on all-conditions trail shoes." Designed to be light, flexible, waterproof and highly breathable, the collection pairs an athletic profile with Gore-Tex Surround waterproof construction. Under Armour's $150 Horizon 50 is a light and fast trail shoe with the brand's athletic aesthetic. It is built to offer a smooth heel-to- toe transition that allows for less fatigue over longer miles. An integrated collar prevents debris from entering the shoe and a podular rubber outsole decreases weight by having rubber only where you need it for a secure grip. Adidas Outdoor's Zwer says the increased specialization of trail runners is driving the need for long-run trainers. "We see trail running is developing a bit like mountain biking did in the past, where you see so many variations — short distances, long dis- tances, relay races, vertical races and so on," he says. "We've found athletes sometimes change shoes in the race, with something minimalistic in the first 20-30 kilometers, and in the last 20k change into something very comfortable to have a smooth ride to the finish line. This is why we had focused on more minimalistic shoes in the past, but for Spring '18, we've launched the Terrex Two."
