Dear Friends, Just as the spring gives way to summer with the changing of the seasons, our world also changes—creating new opportunities and challenges. Healthcare is one area that continues to evolve. As the future of healthcare remains uncertain, Longmont United Hospital will continue to stay true to our mission to provide exceptional patient care and improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve. To fulfill this mission, LUH continues to find ways to optimize access to care and adapt to our community's needs. Very recently, Centura Health, which LUH is part of, partnered with DispatchHealth to bring the "house call" service to Boulder County. This on-demand healthcare service is now available to Longmont residents, and surrounding areas will be included in the future. This is an exciting development that will allow healthcare to travel to the patient instead of the patient traveling to receive care. Just as we continue to strive for innovation in care delivery, LUH is dedicated to improving the nutritional environment at our hospital. Our efforts were recognized last month as part of the Colorado Healthy Hospital Compact when we received a silver-level status as a hospital. This was an exciting improvement from our previous bronze status, and we are eager to find new, creative ways to further enhance our nutritional environment. As a hospital, we are concerned with whole-person wellness. LUH believes in caring for the whole individual—mind, body and spirit—not just his or her disease or condition. As such, we are proud to announce that we have successfully renewed our designation as a Planetree Designated ® Person-Centered Hospital. As the healthcare landscape changes, LUH remains committed to providing exceptional patient care and investing in the health of the communities we serve. Cordially, Mitchell C. Carson President & CEO By Kevin Bundy, MD, FAAFP Board-certified family medicine physician CHPG Primary Care - Southwest Longmont A 2015 HARVARD Medical School study found that yoga is a great practice to help you unwind from your busy life. Its many benefits include developing a better body image, becoming a more mindful eater and improving cardiovascular health. As a personal practitioner of yoga, I have first-hand experience with the stress release and the physical and spiritual boosts it provides. I've also found it can lead to friendship. One of the yoga classes I attend is held at Longmont's own Oskar Blues Brewery in the Tasty Weasel Tap Room. This class provides stress relief, improves my strength and flexibility, and has led to friendships with the yogi—other students—and class usually ends over a delicious, locally crafted beer. As a family physician, I believe yoga is a great activity for people of all ages to improve their physical, mental and spiritual health. It's a fluid and flexible activity that can be practiced many places: at home, in a yoga studio or at a local park. The low-impact nature of yoga makes it a great exercise for older adults and people of varying fitness levels. If you're a do-it-yourselfer, you can start at home with a good mat and instructional videos. Some people, including myself, find great value in studying under a seasoned yogi—someone who can serve as a teacher and a sounding board to improve your technique and actualize the mental and spiritual benefits yoga provides. Remember, it may also lead to friendship, camaraderie and sharing your favorite beverage. › CHPG Primary Care - Southwest Longmont is located at 2101 Ken Pratt Blvd. in Longmont.
