SPOTLIGHT 44 | | Spring 2015 N icole Covington, Jean Ogden and William Steward may live in different parts of the country, but as American Airlines Federal Credit Union branch managers, they are focused on a common goal: managing three new branches. As you can imagine, a lot goes into opening a new Credit Union location, and these managers are excited to be part of growing the network to reach more member-owners. "Right now my job entails serving the members, developing my direct reports, approving credit products, growing the membership base and advising members on how to DFKLHYHWKHLUÀQDQFLDOJRDOVµ6WHZDUGVD\VRIKLV work on the Charlotte, N.C., branch, which opened April 1. Steward describes his job as, "the perfect FRPELQDWLRQRIZKDW,ORYHPRVW³ÀQDQFHDQG DYLDWLRQµ Out west, Ogden and Covington are equally busy and excited to help launch Phoenix Headquarters and Sky Harbor Airport branches, respectively, in Arizona. With the headquarters location set to open in the summer, Ogden says her job right now involves a lot of training. "I have been working closely with Nicole and [Regional Director] Kent Ash to ensure that when we open the doors I have all of the knowledge and experience to make this a SRVLWLYHDQGSURGXFWLYHH[SHULHQFHµVKHVD\V Covington echoes this statement regarding her branch, saying, "I'm here to ensure the security and soundness of branch operations, direct the operation of a full-service Credit Union branch staff and fully engage in the development of business. I take care of our members to ensure they have a happy and positive H[SHULHQFHHDFKWLPHWKH\ZDONWKURXJKWKHGRRUµ Summing up what all three managers like best about their jobs, they agree – the people. "Since I started, Kent has done such a great job of making sure I have the training I need, getting me in front of the right departments each week and ensuring ,KDYHZKDW,QHHGWREHVXFFHVVIXOµ2JGHQVD\V "I have met so many great team members from Training, Phone Loans, branches (special thank you to GSW), Review, Retention, Fraud, Business Development, Marketing and, of course, the other managers in my region. I cannot thank them all HQRXJKIRUWKHLUVXSSRUWµ Visitors to the new branches will be in great hands with these managers.
