ain boots are becoming the fashion accessory even on sunny days.
New bright colors like Roma's "blush" and pretty patterns make
them stand out in grey weather, while foot-coddling comfort fea-
tures make them an ideal choice even when the sky is dry. "They
are more fun and less utilitarian," says Steven Sedlbauer, president of
Cougar Shoes. Marion Minary, product line manager of Sorel, defines the
new styles as "chic yet practical" enough to "step boldly from outdoor to
indoor, day to night and season to season." At The Original Muck Boot
Company, "practical" plays out as underfoot comfort, easy on-and-off
features, excellent fit and great grip. "Traction is getting more atten-
tion," says Brendan Murray, senior global manager, outdoor and marine
at Honeywell Global Retail. "Many rain boots are showing a similar look
and feel, so that a detail as important as traction is starting to become
a point of difference between brands like Muck."
