Our cover story spotlights HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley's Center of Vascular Excellence in Kingston, NY. Residents are offered a full range of state-of-the-art treatments for vascular conditions in a community setting. Located at the Benedictine Hospital campus, the center is fully equipped with a new angiography suite and the latest imaging technologies. Jeffrey Hnath, M.D., vascular surgeon and Director of the Center of Vascular Excellence, reflects on teamwork as the key component in providing superior care. In our special feature, we present Health Quest: Mid Hudson Valley's largest health care system, which offers residents the full range of hospital services, urgent care, homecare and nursing home care. Our focus this month is cancer care, and we hear from James R. Nitzkorski, M.D., surgical oncologist with Health Quest. Dr. Nitzkorski stresses collaboration among experts in surgery, medical oncology and radiation oncology is the force that brings technology and talent to its fullest potential in caring for cancer patients. Our feature story this month looks at two entities that are working toward interoper- ability in an effort to streamline communication and enhance the efficiency of patient care. Beginning at what is often patients' point of entry into an episode of care, we discuss interoperability in the context of emergency medical services (EMS). We speak to Jim Langabeer, Ph.D., EMT, President and CEO of Greater Houston Healthconnect, about the challenges of achieving interoperability between EMS and hospital providers, and highlight the technology in action at Lehigh Valley Health Network.
