++++++++++++++++++++++++++ HOSPITAL ROUNDS +++ +++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ + + What's New At Area Hospitals Orange Regional Medical Center has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines– Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes Orange Regional Medical Center's commitment to and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations. Orange Regional Medical Center is a designated Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health. As a designated Stroke Center, Orange Regional Medical Center has an expert stroke team made up of highly trained physicians, nurses and technicians who treat stroke patients quickly and effectively, using the latest medicines and techniques, to minimize brain damage. Having quick access to these types of services within the first three hours of showing symptoms of a stroke is essential to preventing long-term neurological damage. For more information about Orange Regional Medical Center's Stroke Center or Neurosciences Department, call 1-800-321-ORMC or visit www.ormc.org/stroke. The Taste of the Hudson Valley, Saint Francis Hospital and Health Center's most important annual fundraiser, is Sunday, November 4. The 24th edition of the international wine and epicurean arts festival will be held at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie. Proceeds will help fund a variety of ongoing hospital projects. Tickets are on sale at www.tastehv.org. Featured will be exquisite fare from more than 40 of the region's finest restaurants and purveyors. There will also be live music and live and silent auctions. One aspect that separates this event from smaller ones that have spawned in the wake of the hospital's event is that the wines differ at the various restaurant booths and are matched to each food offer- ing. One auction item will be "Taste of the Taste," one bottle of every paired wine poured at the event — more than 80 bottles of premium international wines. HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley offers a comprehensive outpa- tient weight management program through individualized counseling and classes at the Diabetes Education Center, at 37 Albany Ave. Patients work with the center's registered dietitians, who are certi- fied by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, to meet their weight management goals with counseling and recommendations based on evidence-based research. The program can help patients lose 5, 50 or more pounds, by set- ting realistic, maintainable goals that can be carried throughout life. Short-term success with fad diets is not always healthy or maintainable. Program options include a three-week session of weight-loss classes, a 10-week session of classes and one-on-one weight management counseling sessions. The classes include a 15-minute "Ask the RD" ses- sion with a weigh-in. For more information, contact the center at (845) 334-4249. ■ Orange Regional Medical Center's stroke team (L–R): JoAnn Schultz, M.A., R.N., senior nursing service administrator; Cathy Ryan, R.N., CPHQ; Anuj Vohra, D.O., Associate Medical Director of the Emergency Department; Rose Toscano, neurosciences coordinator; Laura Mansfield, R.N., M.S.N., nursing services administrator of emergency, critical and progressive care; and Robin Brennan Seibel, R.N., B.S.N., Nursing Director of the Emergency Department.
