Unity Health — Harris Medical Center in Newport is excited to share a new unit and equipment that provides patients with opportunities to receive exams faster, more easily and with even greater precision. With these new additions, patients will be able to have an overall improved experience when undergoing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and mammograms, both critical for analysis and treatment. A new MRI was recently installed at the hospital, equipped with a Siemens MAGNETOM Aera, a scanner that offers greater diagnostic confidence and faster exams, making the process more convenient and comfortable for patients. The machine offers a full range of applications for the clinical process and research. Fewer exams could potentially be required, sharper images can be displayed, and both lighting and color preferences can be chosen by patients to make the scanning environment more calming. The scanner is not only one of the newest platforms on the market, providing remarkable results, but it performs quickly, has 70 percent less sound pressure and is more convenient for utilization. This top-of-the-line machine provides an even greater level of imaging quality for patients in the community. It can be used to evaluate a wide variety of health issues, including kyphosis, respiratory concerns, and pain and mobility issues, as well as a diversity of patients, such as children, those who are obese or critically ill, or people who have claustrophobia or anxiety. Another imaging addition is the GE Senographe Pristina™ digital mammography system giving patients superior diagnostic accuracy with low physical strain and an overall improved exam experience during mammograms. Unity Health — Harris Medical Center is the first facility in the state to receive this advanced technology, and it is able to be upgraded consistently with the most up-to-date software on the market. The mammography system is designed to put patients at ease, while giving technologists confidence and radiologists clarity for diagnoses and examinations. The mammography system will be critical in detecting cancer early and determining changes in patients receiving frequent exams. With this advanced exam experience, physicians will be able to decipher digital images, which can be analyzed in greater detail versus previous forms of mammography. Unity Health — Harris Medical Center hopes to provide patients with peace of mind as they receive exams while also easing access to quality care.
