A Time of Remembrance Hospice Care by the Numbers Between July 1, 2016, and June 30, 2017, we cared for more than 100 patients and families across the region. Take a look at the numbers that defined CHI St. Joseph's Health Hospice Care over the last year: This holiday season, CHI St. Joseph's Health will light up the Christmas tree on Main Street in honor of Guy LaFontaine. W onderful husband, father, grandfather, employer, and friend—these are the words Joan LaFontaine uses when she describes her husband, Guy. A Walker native, Guy moved to California with his family when he was a boy, but his heart remained in Minnesota. Following their wedding in 1972, Joan and Guy moved in 1973 to Walker, where Guy owned a business and the couple raised their three children. Last year, Guy and Joan faced a hard decision. Following a lengthy illness, Guy's neurologist recommended the 64-year-old consider hospice care. "That news was difficult to hear," Joan says. "But we knew that without hospice Guy wouldn't be able to remain at home, which was very important to us." ROOTED IN DIGNITY AND RESPECT The mission of Hospice Care is to provide high-quality, compassionate end-of-life care that aligns with the goals of our patients and their families. "We focus on caring, not curing," says Jessica Jensen, CHI St. Joseph's Health Interim Hospice Care Director.
