That's why the state of Minnesota is granting money to a CHI St. Joseph's Health Community Health campaign that champions fatherhood and family. I n 2011, Joe Johnson helped spread the word about The FATHER (Fostering Actions to Help Earnings and Responsibilities) Project, a campaign designed to engage with dads, teaching them how to connect with their children, build job-seeking skills, and gain emotional and financial stability. Since then, nearly 400 dads have graduated from the program. Now, with a new state grant totaling $71,250 per year for two years, Johnson, Coordinator of The FATHER Project, looks forward to revamping the project's employment component. This resource alone held an 80 percent success rate in helping fathers find stable jobs through one-on-one counseling, mock interviews, and extensive training. "This provision of funds allows us to focus more of our resources on preparing dads to enter the workforce," says Johnson. "Everything we do here with these fathers changes the future for their children—and will continue to play out for generations." DEEP ROOTS, REAL CHANGE "Positive social and economic effects from The FATHER Project can be felt throughout Hubbard County," says Marlee Morrison, PHN, CHI St. Joseph's Health Community Health Director. "We walk alongside men in our community as they make the transition into fatherhood," Morrison says. "During this time, we teach them practical skills that transcend into their personal lives. They learn how to prioritize their responsibilities at home and in the workplace—and everyone wins when this happens." All FATHER Project participants gain access to a full spectrum of resources that include parenting support, personal consultations, relationship- strengthening activities, and basic adult education classes. This platform is made possible through philanthropic support. All donations, big or small, make a difference. If you are a Hubbard County dad wanting to enroll in The FATHER Program, call 218.255.2063.
