We look for ward to providing top-notch care in a new, world-class facilit y." —Jo shua Gl enn, MD, FAC S, FA A P, Medic al Dir ec t or o f Pediatric Sur ger y, Bever ly K night Ol s on Chil dr en's Ho spit al , Nav ic ent He alth e impact of the care provided within the walls of the Children's Hospital extends beyond emergency intervention. Programs are in place to ensure that local children have access to the latest medical advances, and families turn to the hospital for their children's preventive and primary care services. e hospital also serves as a regional referral center, offering support to children and families facing severe and complex conditions. Once complete in early 2019, the new 100,000-square-foot tower will expand the availability of these vital services. Located on the corner of Pine and Spring streets, the tower will serve as a home away from home for central and south Georgia families during their times of greatest need. To help create a feeling of continuity for patients and families, the current Children's Hospital is also being renovated. e two adjoined spaces will function as a single, cohesive, child-friendly hospital. A WHOLE NEW PEDIATRIC WORLD e new tower will house a full range of pediatric services, including : • A state-of-the-art Pediatric Emergency Center located on the first floor. Currently, a portion of the adult Emergency Center is set aside for children in need of urgent intervention. Going forward, pediatric emergency services will be centrally located within the Children's Hospital tower, so young patients and their families can look to one place to have all of their medical needs met. • Radiolog y and Imaging Services, as well as an Observation Unit. ese new units will allow patients and their families easier access to diagnostic tests, lab work, or any type of imaging or intensive observation needed during their plan of care, without leaving the convenience of the Children's Hospital. • A new Pediatric Surgical Center. Located on the third floor of the tower, the center will be dedicated to providing advanced surgical technologies, including robotics and a spinal navigation system. "When families are faced with difficult circumstances, it is our goal to make access to the latest advancements in pediatric medicine and surgery simple by having them all under one roof," says Cal Hays, Chair of the Navicent Health Foundation Board of Directors. "Soon, children in need of infusion therapy, anesthesia services, endoscopy services, or any type of operation or procedure can simply be transported up two floors in the tower, instead of being moved to operating rooms located in a separate building." FROM THE GROUND UP Expansion plans also include transitioning the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NNICU) to the new tower. Plans to build out the new tower with two floors will increase the space dedicated to each bed, Hays says. "We owe the Olson family and Knight Foundation a huge thank you for providing such a generous signature gi to kick off this building campaign," Hays says. "At a time when few hospitals are building new structures, we consider ourselves fortunate to play a role in the future footprint of Navicent Health."
