From the President Dear Friend, Philanthropy fuels the Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital mission and transformation into an academic health system. The research, graduate medical education and clinical efforts amplify care for thousands of children throughout our region and beyond. This issue of For The Kids celebrates several families who hope to inspire others with their examples of generosity with time and money. Every hour of volunteerism helps. Whether it's $5, $50 or $5 million, every dollar has an impact. The Foundation recently implemented new tools to help you create a targeted webpage to raise money for our patients, families and programs. The work you support is international in scope. Fernando, featured on the cover, needed specialized kidney care that was not available in his home country. The Johns Hopkins All Children's international program team arranged for him to get that care through our Maternal, Fetal & Neonatal Institute. Now he is healthy and back home. The Maternal, Fetal & Neonatal team also manages challenging pregnancies and deliveries as part of a continuum of care designed to produce the best outcomes for the mother and the child. Some cases involve the national opioid crisis that has been in the news. Our team does important work with children born into addiction to help them at birth and in their formative years. This edition also spotlights education with a profile of Allen Root, M.D., one of our biggest graduate medical education supporters, and a story highlighting Jennifer Arnold, M.D., M.Sc., FAAP, a nationally known expert who joined us this summer as medical director of our simulation program.
