South Nassau is in the midst of a capital campaign designed to raise $10 million from supporters and the community to help fund the $60 million cost of the expansion. The five-year campaign has raised $6.9 million to date. When the multi-phase expansion is completed, the 16,000-square- foot Emergency Department, which was built to accommo - date 35,000 patients a year, will nearly double and have the capacity to see approximately 80,000 patients annually. Northwell Health has entered into a partnership with Surgical Specialty Center of Westchester, a freestanding, multidisci- plinary, outpatient surgery center based at 440 Mamaroneck Ave. in Harrison, NY. Northwell acquired a 20 percent initial position in the center with its eight surgeon owners. The ownership agreement will allow Northwell rights to attain up to 51 percent of the center within five years. The agreement marks the ninth joint venture that Northwell Health has signed with operators of ambulatory surgery centers, with plans to build out a network totaling more than 20 centers in the coming years. The health system's current ambulatory surgery joint venture partners include: SurgiCare of Manhattan, SurgiCare of Westside, Endoscopy Center of Long Island in Garden City, Garden City SurgiCenter, South Shore Surgery Center in Bay Shore, Suffolk Surgery Center in Shirley, Digestive Health Center of Huntington and Richmond Pain Management Ambulatory Surgery Center on Staten Island. The Third Annual North Fork Open, a two-day double elimination event was a "win-win" on all fronts. Hosted by the TWIGS Branch of the Eastern Long Island Hospital Auxiliary at The Courts of Peconic Landing in Greenport, the tournament drew a hearty crowd of both participants and spectators. Great tennis was played by all, and over $4,000 was raised for Eastern Long Island Hospital. Sponsored by Peconic Landing and coordinated by Tennis Pro Mark Brent, the tournament included a ladies' competition won by Patty Cortez and Linda Ortiz, both of Greenport. Champions in the men's competition were Eric Digons of North Easton, Massachusetts, for - merly of Mattituck, and John Czartosieski of Riverhead. In the wake of Hurricane Sandy five years ago, New York physicians came together to help their colleagues whose practices had been dam- aged by the hurricane. Now, in the midst of the devastation that Hurricane Maria has brought to the island of Puerto Rico, MSSNY President Charles Rothberg, MD, is asking his fellow physicians across New York state to come together to donate money to help in the recovery efforts in Puerto Rico. MSSNY's Medical Educational and Scientific Foundation (MESF), a not-for-profit subsidiary, is collecting funds to assist in the recovery ef - forts. One hundred percent of the funds raised will support physicians' practices in Puerto Rico. The program will help cover expenses (not covered by insurance or other funding) for relocating or rehabilitating a physician's medical office. The fundraising efforts will go directly to the physicians in Puerto Rico to aid in replacing equipment, helping needed staff, rebuilding patient records and other similar needs.
