Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) for its spinal cord injury program; and + securing continuous CARF reaccredi- tation, the gold standard for quality outcomes in rehabilitation programs. In addition, MetroHealth is among an elite group of hospitals nationwide to achieve Magnet Status for excellence in nursing care. Magnet Status reflects higher patient satisfaction rates, better patient outcomes and shorter hospital lengths of stay. "All of this is verification that our programs are comprehensive and our outcomes are consistently excellent," says Dr. Clark. "Given our expert faculty for both patient care and research, along with our resident and fellowship training programs — and now our new inpatient facilities — MetroHealth provides the perfect environment to advance the science and practice of physical medicine and rehabilitation." The new home of the MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio boasts 67 beds and is modern with hardwood floors, earth-tone décor and contempo- rary fixtures for a warm, comfortable atmosphere. Patient rooms, most of which are private, are spacious, as are the family gathering areas on each floor. "Part of the idea behind this new facility was to have space to grow in a bright and modern facility that patients and their families would appreciate," Dr. Clark explains. "Also, environment plays a big part in the healing process, as well as in what the public perceives as quality care. So, this move should not only enhance the rehabilitation experi- ence, but also help improve outcomes for our patients." Like the former facility, each of the patient care floors is dedicated to a distinct type of rehabilitation: brain injury rehab is located on the eighth floor; stroke and orthopaedic rehab, on the seventh floor; and spinal cord injury rehab, on the sixth floor. Activity rooms for art and music therapy are located on all three floors. An expanded therapy gym on the first floor provides a full range of therapies for patients needing rehabili- tation for stroke/orthopaedic problems and spinal cord injuries. A smaller gym on the eighth floor enables brain injury rehabilitation patients to receive therapy without leaving their floor. "The timing of this move is ideal, because the MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio is 60 years old this year," says Dr. Clark. "With all of our capabilities of handling the most complex and complicated rehabilitation needs, we have the premier rehabilita- tion program in Northeast Ohio. And now we have this beautiful facility. We're very excited about the enhanced opportunities it will provide for our patients and their families."
