Pediatric Epilepsy Program The Akron Children's Hospital Pediatric Epilepsy Program offers advanced diagnostic, monitoring and therapeutic services, including surgery, for infants, children and teens suffering from seizures. The program is a service of the multidisciplinary NeuroDevelopmental Science Center. Our pediatric epileptologists have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric epilepsy, including identifying children with intractable seizures who may benefit from surgery. Available treatment options include: • FDA-approved anti-seizure medications • Investigational medications • Curative brain surgery • Vagus nerve stimulator, which can be implanted on an outpatient basis for children with intractable seizures • Ketogenic diet Akron Children's newly created, state-of-the-art epilepsy monitoring unit uses continuous video EEG monitoring for accurate localization of seizures to improve drug therapy and more quickly identify patients eligible for epilepsy surgery.
