++++++++++++++++++++++++ + + ++++++++++++++++++++++++ HOSPITAL ROUNDS +++ +++ What's New at Area Hospitals Saint Francis Hospital and Health Centers in Poughkeepsie has dedicated its new, expanded cancer center with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The $1 million, 6,500-square- foot facility was funded with $800,000 out of a $4.1 million state HEAL NY grant and $200,000 in donations. The center is located on the first floor of the Medical Arts Pavilion, adjacent to the hospital parking garage. It's accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and the American College of Radiology and was the first in the region and fifth in the state awarded a national, three-year accreditation by the American College of Surgeons. The new cancer center offers advanced treatment for all major cancers, includ- ing breast, lung, colon and other digestive tract cancers, prostate, bladder, lymphoma and melanoma. Patients benefit from the collective exper- tise of board-certified and fellowship-trained surgical, radiation and medical oncolo- gists and the specialized skills of certified oncology nurses. David Lundquist, CEO of HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley, says the accreditation shows the organization's commitment to provide quality health care close to home. "This is one of many indicators that our community does not have to travel to get quality surgical care," says Lundquist. "Congratulations to our excellent physi- cians, nurses, technicians and staff who have worked diligently for this recognition." Joseph Marsicovete, Chief Quality and HR Officer at HealthAlliance, says the accolade was based on achieving 95% or greater in all accountability measures of performance for surgery.
