The Award: The Just Do It Award
Presented by Nike
The Winner: Catherine Moloznik, Fleet Feet Chicago
Why They Won
Introduced by Scott Gravatt from Nike
"The Just Do It Award is presented every year to an ex-
ceptional woman in the Running Specialty community. We
should all find it upsetting that in 2017 women often find
themselves starting the proverbial race 10 meters back. Es-
pecially upsetting because when you look at the spectrum
of running – well, you have to admit that the best stories in
running come from the female side!
• Kathrine Switzer dressing like a boy and running Boston.
• Joanie taking off at mile 4 post knee surgery and running
22 miles on her own for Gold.
• Grace Ping going up against the big girls.
• Emma and Courtney going 1 and 2 steeplechase thisyear.
• Camille Herron setting the 100-mile record this year of
any gender.
• Shalane with the most appropriate use of a four-letter word
in the history of sports. Fuck YEAH!
Ninety days in on this job, I didn't feel qualified to pick
this award, so I polled this audience. Many of you received
emails from me. Lots more received cold calls. It was awe-
some to see you guys rally around your tribe. Hopefully it
was also a subtle reminder that you are stronger together.
The recipient of this year's award goes to a woman that
has accomplished feats in the business world deserving to be
mentioned in the same sentences as the elite athletes above:
