CHESTNUT STREET IN WESTON, MASS. "The challenge was to build a large house on a narrow lot to look as if it belonged there. So Lincoln Architects, Christina and I spent a lot of time creating a grand look of an estate within a narrow property. As you may know, in Weston the zoning and building parameters can be very dif ficult. T he town has RGFA large house requirements, so any home like this one that exceeds RGFA limits requires spec ial pe r mit ting. For tunately, we have a great team th at h elps u s pe r mit th ese h o m es . This is also a transitional house with unique millwork elements. We believe this combination of traditional and contemporary design — which is not too ornate — will still be in style 20 or 30 years down the road and will show very well to Realtors and buyers, should the owners ever choose to sell. " We consider the chestnut kitchen in this house a real 'home run' because every person who has ever looked at the home has commented on the beauty of the kitchen. There is also a unique, c u stom stu dio dresse r piece in th e master walk-in closet, as well as a full mahogany library. The mudroom is always an important part of our designs to a ccommod ate a young family, a growing family or an established family, which collectively represent our core market. Logically, the children need a place to 'decompress' when they get home from school or from outdoor play and need a place to put their sports gear and clothes in an organized fashion. So we like to include very large mudrooms that are extremely functional for today's active families but also strategically placed o„ to the side, away from the main kitchen yet with easy access. "The results were spectacular on this large home in Weston with a custom layout and full walk-out basement. The original family still lives in this home."
