WINTER HEALTH TIPS YOU
MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT
Each winter brings a flurry of articles about flu shots
and avoiding winter weight gain. Here's some advice
you might not have heard yet:
OUR 13TH ANNUAL GALA GAVE US
THE OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE AN
ESTEEMED PRACTITIONER AND FRIEND.
To kick off the holiday
season, more than 230
attendees—including
community members,
physicians, nurses
and staff—gathered
to celebrate William
Ogden, MD, whose
expertise in orthopedics
has benefited many
residents of Columbus
County.
The event, which was held on November 18, 2017,
at Vineland Station Depot in downtown Whiteville
included live music, food, drinks and a silent auction
that featured generous gifts from a variety of sponsors.
Thanks to the wonderful turnout and the CRHS
Foundation, the gala was able to raise more than
$66,000, which will support local scholarships, the
Healing Garden and the Cancer Center Fund for
oncology patients, among other projects.

Foundation, visit crhealthcare.org/foundation.
KEEP SUNSCREEN AROUND
The sun's rays can be harmful to the
skin all year long. The Skin Cancer
Foundation suggests using sunscreen
with an SPF of 15 or higher on all
exposed skin—particularly around
snow, which can reflect 80 percent of
UV light from the sun.
TURN TO TEA
A cup of tea can
warm you up while
also helping you stay
hydrated, which is
important, given a
healthy person needs at
least 91 to 125 ounces of
fluid per day.
CONSIDER THE COMPANY YOU KEEP
Spending quality time
with friends and family
can alleviate the "winter
blues." However, infectious
diseases tend to spread
more during the cold
months—in part because
people spend more time
together indoors. With this
in mind, you could benefit
from paying more attention
to the health of the people
you interact with most.

Each year the gala is held
on the Saturday before
Thanksgiving.
