" Cancer care is so complex and highly specialized today. Partnering with Oneida Healthcare allows us to deliver that innovative, expert care to more people across the state. Best of all, they don't have to come to Roswell Park in Buffalo to get great care; Roswell Park comes to them." CANDACE S. JOHNSON, PHD, PRESIDENT AND CEO, ROSWELL PARK COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER The second phase of the prog ra m is the construction of a new radiation oncolog y building, and the third phase includes expa nding the A lice Gorma n Imag ing Center, which will be updated with new state-of-the-a r t PET/ CT a nd MR I sca nners. Oneida Hea lthca re a nd Roswell Pa rk pla n to f inish a ll three phases of the project by the end of 2018. INFUSION SERVICES AND TELEMEDICINE Patients a nd referring physicia ns do not have to wa it until the project is completed to start enjoying the benefits of t his new pa r tnership. The ca ncer center bui lding, Oneida Hea lth Ca ncer Ca re in a ff iliation with Roswell Pa rk C ompr ehen sive Ca nc er C ent er, i s op en a nd includes 12 treatment bays for the administration of che- motherapy, biotherapy, blood products and other infusion services. The center also contains a clinical pharmacy, community resource center, four physician exam rooms, two consult rooms and a well-equipped telemedicine center. Hematology/oncology treatment and access to Roswell Park specialists became available in the fall of 2017. "Oncologists and specialty surgeons from Roswell Park provide services here in Oneida and consult with patients who have solid tumors," Walz says. "We're able to bring highly specialized tertiary and quaternary surgical care to our community through surgeons experienced in treating a wide variety of di„erent cancer types." Specialists from Roswell Park visit Oneida Healthcare to see patients and consult with local providers in person. The types of visiting specialists will shift and expand to meet community needs. Oneida Healthcare's access to Roswell Park specialists allows patients to stay local, requiring them to travel to Bu„alo only for advanced surgical procedures, if they are deemed necessary. "If something can be performed here in Oneida by a Roswell Park specialist, we want to give the patient that option," Morreale says. "We will arrange for local care through our nurse navigator and physicians to keep from burdening the patient with travel. Additionally, patients will have access to a very successful tumor board program at Roswell Park." Patients have additional access to specialists from Roswell Park through a recently installed telemedicine conference system. The conference center facilitates face-to-face com- munication between patients and providers, allowing for remote genetic counseling and test coordination services. The technology in the conference center also enhances multidisciplina r y ca re through remote tumor boa rd participation. "Patients may only see one physician in Oneida, but their cases can be presented to 20 other physicians on the tumor board through telehealth equipment," Dr. Schwaab says. "This group can examine X-rays, pathology results and other information and then collaborate on treatment plans and recommendations." Telemedicine will allow for remote genetic counseling and test coordination services — enhancing multidisciplinary care through remote tumor board participation. The Infusion Center includes 12 treatment bays for the administration of chemotherapy, biotherapy, blood products and other infusion services. 0 8 0 8❱❱❱❱❱ C O V E R S T O R Y
