The Westchester Institute for Human Development (WIHD) announced that its Dental Services program for people with disabilities has re - ceived two awards from the New York State Dental Foundation (NYSDF). WIHD is the recipient of a $5,000 award from the NYSDF's Give Kids a Smile Award program. The award recognizes an organization's ability to build, expand or enhance education, access and/or capacity with respect to oral health care for children. In addition to the award, WIHD received from NYSDF the donation of a portable, hand-held NOMAD X-ray unit. The donation was made courtesy of NYSDF's new Equipment Donation Program. The NOMAD unit, which was provided by KaVo Kerr Group, will be used on WIHD's Dental Van. Last year, WIHD received a state grant to replace the nearly obsolete mobile dental care clinic van, which serves individuals with severe dis - abilities who have significant barriers to proper and regular access to dental care. A new, modern van will be unveiled in the coming months. The Montefiore Einstein 3D Laboratory recently hosted a ribbon- cutting with a tour and demonstration of its new 3D printers as well as remarks from Co-directors of the 3D Lab, Evan Garfein, MD, Chief, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Oren Tepper, MD, Director, Craniofacial and Aesthetic Surgery. The evolution of 3D printing has impacted medicine in countless ways. Surgeons now have the ability to print 3D, patient-specific models to help improve patient education and assist with preoperative planning and intraoperative decision-making. The 3D Lab comes equipped with the latest 3D printing capabilities and advanced technologies, as well as a unique partnership with 3D Systems, one of the premier 3D printing companies in the world. 3D Systems has chosen to partner with the Montefiore Einstein 3D Laboratory to marry the best in engineering and medical capabilities to make the most of our 3D printing technology for our patients. This partnership elevates our 3D printing lab capabilities and brings a new component into medical 3D printing. HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), has received con - tingency approval from the New York State Department of Health for a transformative $92 million expansion and enhancement of HealthAlliance Hospital: Mary's Avenue Campus, HealthAlliance and WMCHealth announced. The reimagined HealthAlliance Hospital will have a new, four-story tower and 437,000 square feet of space — 100,000 square feet more than the hospital's current configuration. It will boast over 200 total beds, of which 140 will be private, and a new state-of-the-art emer - gency department, ICU and medical-surgical tower. The new HealthAlliance Hospital effort and the planned consolida- tion of all HealthAlliance inpatient and emergency services in that re-created Mary's Avenue hospital are the first part of a multiyear, $133.6 million Healthy Neighborhood Initiative project. The project will also redevelop the current HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus into a "medical village" — an innovative focal point for the city's health and related needs. Of the $133.6 million total, $88.8 million of the multiphase project's funding will come from the New York State Capital Restructuring Financing Program, with the balance coming from WMCHealth, HealthAlliance and a capital fundraising campaign. Other WMCHealth investments in the Hudson Valley include a $40 million expansion of Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis that will also include a medical village, as well as a just- completed $8 million renovation of MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie. WMCHealth is also investing $230 million in its flagship campus in Valhalla, with the construction of the 280,000-square-foot Ambulatory Care Pavilion, Westchester County's largest healthcare construction project in decades. n The Westchester Institute for Human Development receives an award.
