Rolls Out New Pain Management,
Controlled Substance Policy
WITH A GRE AT need, limited providers and a huge responsibility to its patients, the
Hutchinson Clinic recently rolled out a new, comprehensive opioid ma nagement
strateg y — its Ma nagement of Chronic Pa in with Controlled Substa nces Progra m,
developed using best practices a nd resea rch-ba sed initiatives. By prov iding
g uidelines a nd clinica l ly va lid protocols, the policy suppor ts prescribers a nd
patients a like.
Opioid abuse has been a prominent nationa l conversation, and sadly Reno County
is no exception to this ongoing crisis. This progra m, created in collaboration with
state a nd loca l pa r tners, ensures that patients receive adequate treatment while
minimizing the potentia l for abuse a nd misuse of controlled medications. It a lso
provides for sa fe disposa l of unused medications.
By providing g uidelines for reg ula rly scheduled visits with patients receiving
chronic controlled substa nce prescriptions, there will be oppor tunities to review
