THE SOUTH NASSAU CENTER FOR MATERNAL FE TAL MEDICINE IS THE ONLY INSTITUTION OF ITS KIND ON THE SOUTH SHORE TO OFFER HIGHœRISK PREGNANCY CARE, INCLUDING ULTR ASOUND SERVICES, A DVA NCED FE TA L MONITORING, GENE TIC TES TING A ND COUNSELING, DI A BE TES EDUCATION A ND MORE. PRIOR TO THE creation of the South Nassau Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine, expectant mothers with high-risk pregnancies would need to travel upwards of half an hour or more for special- ized care. Now, community members can find maternal-fetal medicine services right across the street from South Nassau Communities Hospital. Pregnant women may require maternal-fetal medicine if they have a pre-existing condition, such as diabetes or autoimmune disease, a history of delivering before full-term, a family history of genetic conditions or if they develop a medical condition that can a€ect their personal health or the health of their baby. "Even if patients aren't sure if they're high-risk, we'll examine their history and help them make that determination," says Jonathan Rosner, MD, materna l-feta l medicine specia list and obstetrician-gynecologist at the South Nassau Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine. Dina El Kady, MD, FACOG, Chief of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine at South Nassau Communities Hospital, performs a 3-D ultrasound on a patient while Keren Besser, RN, assists.
