While transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) has traditionally served as the gold standard surgical treatment for urinary symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), laser treatments such as holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and thulium laser enucleation of the prostate (ThuLEP) are more deserving of the title.
