to earn Magnet Recognition® from the
American Nurses Credentialing Center.
e Magnet program requires an intense
five-year review process and is considered
proof of better patient care. e program
recognizes healthcare organizations that
provide the very best in nursing care
and professionalism in nursing practice.
Magnet hospitals report improved clinical
outcomes, fewer patient falls, fewer
medication errors, lower mortality rates,
and higher patient and nurse satisfaction.
Magnet hospitals also tend to have lower
nursing turnover and an improved working
environment.
UMC Health System has also achieved
the Healthgrades 2018 Outstanding
Patient Experience Award. is distinction
recognizes UMC as being among the top
5 percent of hospitals nationwide, according
to Healthgrades.
UMC is one of only 12 hospitals in Texas
to be named in the top 5 percent and is
the only hospital in Lubbock to hold this
distinction.
e survey questions focus on patients'
perspectives of their care in the hospital.
e topics of these questions range from
cleanliness and noise levels in patient
rooms to factors such as pain management
and responsiveness to patients' needs. is
also includes whether a patient would
recommend the hospital to friends or family.
Additionally, UMC recently made e
Best Place to Work in Texas list for the
third time. UMC gained the top spot
for organizations with more than 500
employees. For nine of the past 10 years,
UMC has ranked among the top three
companies in the state.
