When it comes to heart disease, prevention is key.
To keep your heart in tiptop shape, employ a three-step
preventive approach that focuses on a healthy diet,
daily exercise and stress management.
Cardiologists on the Inspira Health Network
medical staff are involved in research
studies that will help lead the way toward
better patient outcomes and more effective
prevention strategies.
Here are two examples:
• One study aims at helping people
with chronic angina (heart pain brought
about by exertion) who don't improve
significantly with medication and cannot
or choose not to have stents or bypass
surgery. This study will take stem cells from
each patient and reintroduce them into
the heart via the coronary arteries in an
attempt to grow new blood vessels and
improve or relieve symptoms.
• A second study of people with symptomatic
peripheral vascular disease — those
experiencing leg pain upon exertion or
who have had a leg stent or bypass — will
determine which approved medication
(clopidogrel or ticagrelor) proves better at
reducing symptoms and lowering risk of
hospitalization, heart attack, stroke or death.
