PEDIATRIC DIFFUSE INTRINSIC PONTINE GLIOMA RESEARCH AT CHILDREN'S NATIONAL GARNERS GRANT JAVAD NAZARIAN, PhD, an investigator at the Center for Genetic Medicine at Children's National Health System, recently received $99,979 in funding for his proposal, "Comparative Proteomic and RNA Sequencing of DIPGs." DIPG Collaborative, a leading association of foundations funding pediatric diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) cancer research, provided funds for collaboration between Children's National and the laboratory of Cynthia Hawkins, MD, PhD, leading scientist in the field of pediatric brain tumors, at the Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto. Following the grant from the DIPG Collaborative, Dr. Nazarian's team also received $50,000 from the Al Musella Foundation. CHILDREN'S NATIONAL AND CERNER COLLABORATE IN FIRST PEDIATRIC HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE IN THE COUNTRY Children's National and information technology leader Cerner Corporation announced the formation of The Bear Institute, a joint effort that will be the first exclusively pediatric health informatics institute in the nation. The Bear Institute is a seven-year agreement that will advance evidence-based pediatric care delivery, research, and education through innovation in electronic health information technology. The Institute will accelerate the development of fully integrated electronic health records accessible to care providers, patients and families, healthcare facilities, educators, and researchers within—and affiliated with—Children's National. 2013 AAP ALUMNI RECEPTION ||| NEWS NOTES | People IN THE NEWS DENICE CORA-BRAMBLE, MD, MBA, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory and Community Health Services, received the Robert L. Sloan Leadership Award. The award is presented annually to an individual from a member hospital of the District of Columbia Hospital Association, who has demonstrated the qualities of leadership Mr. Sloan inspired.
