VITAL VITAMINS
Vital nutrients help keep you healthy from the inside out. And the best way to take them in is through vitamin-rich foods.
VITAMIN DEFICIENCIES can show up in
small ways or become serious problems over
time. Here's what to watch for.
Symptom: cracked, dry skin around lips
and constant sore mouth
Solution: Vitamin B2 (also known as
riboflavin) helps your body make new
cells. To add more of this vitamin to your
diet, serve up crimini mushrooms or
spinach as a side at dinner.

Symptom: brittle, fragile bones
Solution: Osteoporosis is caused by low
vitamin D levels. Baby your bones by getting
15 minutes of sunlight every day, drinking
vitamin D-fortified milk or juice, or eating
fortified cereals.
Symptom: increased number of nosebleeds,
bleeding gums, or recurrent infections
Solution: Low levels of vitamin C can lead
to scurvy. Sip a glass of orange juice daily,
or stock up on fresh citrus or a chewable
supplement to naturally boost your immunity.
Symptom: scaly skin or rash on face or
body, or frequent hair loss
Solution: Biotin is part of the B-vitamin
family and needs to be replaced daily
to promote healthy skin and hair. Enjoy
scrambled eggs at breakfast or have
fresh-made guacamole as a snack with
whole-grain chips to increase your daily
biotin intake.
